CATASTROPHE BALLET

Founded in 1987, Catastrophe Ballet is best known for the release of their first album "Monologues Of The Past And The Future" (1991) and the years of worldwide success that followed until their break-up in 2013. The band around frontman and singer Eric Burton released eight albums and one EP, travelled around the world and gave numerous concerts in the USA, Mexico, England, Italy, Poland, Austria, France and of course Germany.

Less known so far were the years 1987 to 1990, during which the group founded by Eric Burton and Manfred Thomaser inspired the Malberg - Bitburg - Trier area heavily. Influenced by the Sisters Of Mercy, The Cure, Fields Of The Nephilim and Christian Death, among others, Catastrophe Ballet created their very own goth of melodic and spherical pop and dark rock. Later hits like "Der Taucher (Father Death, Mother Life)", "Black Fire" or "House Of Hate" were created in these early years of the band's history. Manfred Thomaser's role in Catastrophe Ballet ended before the group recorded "Monologues Of The Past And The Future".

On October, 28th 2022, ScentAir Records released songs previously only available on music cassettes from the time when the band laid the roots of their later success: Catastrophe Ballet – The Malberg Tapes (1987 – 1990).

Most of the tracks are largely raw and unpolished recordings, because only "Black Fire" and the second and shorter version of "Der Taucher" were made in a sound studio. Four-track recordings, the standard for young indie bands of the time, and live recordings round off the release and confirm why the first tapes sold out just as quickly as their early concerts.
